Pearl Jam guitar tone

A tone for the band, not for one recording: the sound they are known for, so expect to move a knob for any particular song. Nobody has played this one yet; it comes from a documented rig, not from ears.

Dial it in Guitar Rig 7 Player by hand, using only components the Player edition includes. A starting point nobody has played in this edition yet.

An amp modelled on a Fender Super Reverb, through a Fender Super Reverb 4x10 cab.

Knobs, in signal order

  1. Fire SeekerAmp

    • Gain, 3.5 of 10
    • Low, 5 of 10
    • Mid, 5.5 of 10
    • Treble, 6 of 10
    • Master, 6 of 10

The recipe also sets presence and reverb, which Fire Seeker does not have. Leave its other controls where they load.

  2. Matched Cabinet ProCab

    • Cabinet, the one that loads with Fire Seeker

The rig calls for a Fender Super Reverb 4x10 cabinet. NI does not publish the names of the matched cabinets, so start from the one that loads with the amp and change it by ear.

  • Amp swapped: The Bassman has no counterpart in Guitar Rig 7 Player; Fire Seeker stands in as a Lead amp, since this edition has no Clean amp and NI describes this one as covering clean sounds
  • Note: A plain number is the knob's own reading on a 0 to 10 scale unless the setting gives another range; %, Hz, dB and ms are the units the Guitar Rig 7 interface shows. Amp, drive and fuzz knobs are assumed to read 0 to 10.

Where the rig comes from

  • On Ten McCready used a Fender Bassman for the clean tones, heard on Black, and a Marshall JCM800 for distortion groundguitar.com
  • The exact Bassman model is not confirmed; live he later used a 1963 Bassman for clean tones, and no settings or cabinet are documented groundguitar.com
