About AmpRecipe

What is AmpRecipe?

Guitar tones for the songs you play, ready to load: an AmpliTube 5 preset file and a Guitar Rig 7 setup for each tone, built from the documented rig of the recording.

Where do the values come from?

From sources about the rig: interviews, rig rundowns and gear pages, listed on every tone page. Each setting traces to a source or is marked as a starting point to check by ear. Every new tone is reviewed by a person before it is published, and its page says Sources checked.

What does Checked by ear mean?

The person who runs AmpRecipe played that version of the preset. A tone without it is researched, but nobody has played that version yet.

Is it free?

Yes. Every tone in the catalogue, its preset and its setups are free and stay free.

Platforms and loading

Which AmpliTube 5 edition do I need?

The standard edition. Presets use only gear it includes, so no MAX upgrade or extra collections. The free CS edition lacks some of that gear.

How do I load the .at5p file?

Put it in AmpliTube 5's presets folder and it shows up in the preset browser. On macOS: Documents/IK Multimedia/AmpliTube 5/Presets. On Windows: Documents\IK Multimedia\AmpliTube 5\Presets.

How do the Guitar Rig 7 setups work?

Each tone has a setup to dial by hand, for Player and for Pro: the components in signal order with their settings. Copy it and follow it step by step. Setups are approximations until someone plays them.

Why is there no Player setup for some tones?

Player has fewer components. When it has nothing close enough to part of the rig, the setup is left out instead of guessed, and the Pro setup is offered.

Can I get a Guitar Rig 7 preset file?

Not today. Setups are written out for you to dial in.

Your guitar

My guitar has single coils. Will it work?

Recipes are voiced for humbuckers. Load it as it is, set your guitar's volume and tone as the page says, then use Not quite right? for the first knob to move.

My guitar isn't the one on the record.

That's expected. The preset is a starting point for the guitar you have: set its volume and tone, then adjust from Not quite right?

The tone sounds off. What do I do?

Try the move in Not quite right? first. Then tell us with It didn't and a reason, or send the knobs you changed with Suggest a change.

Asking and suggesting

The song I want has no tone.

Pick the part and ask for it. Asks rank the research queue, with no date promised.

Will I know when it's ready?

Open the song again later.

What happens to my vote or suggestion?

Votes count for one platform and one version of a tone. Suggestions are numbers a person reviews; nothing in a preset changes without that review.

Privacy and who we are

What do you keep about me?

No account is needed to browse or download. The Privacy page lists exactly what is kept and for how long. Privacy

Are you affiliated with IK Multimedia or Native Instruments?

No. AmpliTube and Guitar Rig are theirs; AmpRecipe is independent. Tabs are linked, never copied.
